André Jardine and the Pumas’ Efraín Juárez criticized the officiating after a heated playoff series between Club América and Pumas UNAM. In a fiery post-match press conference, the América manager defended his team’s spirit while slamming the refereeing decisions that shaped the entire series.
Following a thrilling encounter at Ciudad Universitaria, where Pumas and América left it all on the pitch, Jardine continued to fuel the passion off it. He accused the referees of bias, pointing out that there were six penalty incidents in the series but only four were awarded to his side. “Six penalties – only four were given,” the Brazilian stated bluntly.
Despite América failing to win any of the Clásico matches in the Clausura 2026 season, Jardine remained defiant. “Failure is a very close brother to victory. We will see América back as champions very soon,” he declared. However, he stopped short of confirming his future at the helm of the blue and yellow squad.
On his own continuity, Jardine added: “The position of América coach is a very heavy chair. I’ll be here as long as they want me.” This left his tenure hanging in the balance after an inconsistent campaign that ended with a strong playoff push.
