Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts on the recent clash between Liverpool and Chelsea, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. The match featured two struggling sides, each desperate for a turnaround, and left fans on both sides frustrated after a tense encounter.
Rooney, speaking about the game, noted that Liverpool started strongly, scoring early, but Chelsea took control afterward. “I thought Liverpool actually started quite well, got the goal, and then from there Chelsea were the better team,” Rooney said, as quoted by The Metro. “They caused Liverpool big problems, especially Marc Cucurella running behind.”
Frustration was evident from both fan bases during the match. Chelsea supporters were dismayed after conceding yet another goal within the first five minutes, while Liverpool fans booed their side off the pitch at full time, as Chelsea emerged as the slightly superior team overall. “The crowd were obviously a bit edgy, which you very rarely get from Liverpool fans,” Rooney added. “You never like to see that, but it comes from not having the season they hoped for, and after spending a lot of money.”
In addition to Rooney’s comments, former Blues winger Joe Cole has suggested bold moves for Chelsea to bounce back from a difficult season, while defender Levi Colwill expressed relief after making his first appearance following a serious injury, helping Chelsea secure a point at Anfield.
