DeMarcus Lawrence, arguably the most outspoken former Cowboy still active in the NFL, made waves when he left Dallas after 11 seasons, stating unequivocally that he “knew for sure he wasn’t going to win a Super Bowl there.” That gamble paid off spectacularly when he and the Seahawks hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in February, defeating the New England Patriots.

Now, Lawrence has helped lure his former teammate to Seattle using the same mindset. After Fowler agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million, he explained to Seahawks.com how a 30-minute FaceTime call with Lawrence sealed the deal.

“If you want to win a Super Bowl, you should come here,” Lawrence told him, according to Fowler.

The conversation was persuasive enough that Fowler made his decision immediately after hanging up. He will reunite not only with Lawrence but also with Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, who served as Dallas’s defensive line coach for three seasons.

Fowler told the team’s official website that signing with Seattle “feels right.”
